 - Physical inspection, examination, components assessment and safety limits testing and integrity assurance of  the equipment by the contractor as per the manufacturers recommendation and industry regulatory  requirements.  


- Inspection, testing and preventive maintenance and certification of the food preparation/Kitchen independent  f ire protection systems.  Duly certification of every piece of equipment inspected and maintained by industry regulatory requirements. 


- Ensure Annual Foam Concentrate Analysis meet regulatory requirements.  Foam concentrate testing evaluates  whether stored foam is in satisfactory condition and whether it remains compliant with international standards.  Annual testing is essential to ensure continuing integrity and is required by international standard NFPA 11:2021.  


 - Hydrotesting of Agbami FPSO Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) bottles and fire extinguisher bottles.  Hydrostatic testing is the most common way to check a SCBA cylinder for leaks or flaws. The test involves filling the  SCBA cylinder with a liquid, usually water, which may be dyed to aid in visual lead detection, and pressurization of  SCBA cylinder to specified test pressure.

PREVENTIVE & CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE OF FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT

 Okama Infinity Nigeria Limited maintenance of firefighting equipment on the Agbami FPSO is performed through a comprehensive, scheduled program of preventive and corrective maintenance guided by regulatory standards (e.g., IMO, NFPA, OISD) and manufacturer recommendations. This involves engaging both on-board crew with our specialized seasoned duly certified personnel.

 The maintenance program is crucial for ensuring the operational reliability of the Agbami FPSO, a major crude oil production facility owned by Chevron Nigeria.

 

  • Regulatory Compliance: The maintenance schedule and procedures must adhere to international maritime and oil and gas industry safety standards.
  • Scheduled Inspections: A multi-tiered inspection schedule (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and five-year intervals) is implemented for all equipment.
  • Specialized Personnel: While some routine checks are performed by trained crew, more complex maintenance and annual inspections are handled by our certified technicians and specialists.
  • Documentation: Detailed maintenance logs and inspection reports are mandatory and must be kept on board for a specified period, often 10 years.

      3Key Servicing Requirements for Dry Powder Extinguishers

      • Monthly Checks: Ensure the extinguisher is accessible, the gauge shows in the green zone, the tamper seal is intact, and the nozzle is not blocked.
      • Preventative Maintenance (Every 2–3 Months): Turn the extinguisher upside down and tap it with a mallet to prevent the powder from compacting.
      • Annual Service (Professional): A qualified technician will inspect, test the pressure, check for damage, and check the weight.
      • Extended Service (Every 10 Years): Dry powder extinguishers typically require a full discharge, internal examination, and  a hydrostatic pressure test (every 10 years or as required by local regulations).
      • Recharging: Required immediately after any use, regardless of how small.

      Firefighting Practical Training Evaluation

       All firemen proceeded to the fire station conference hall for the online assessment. The examination covered core firefighting procedures, safety protocols, and emergency response as taught during the online training period. The exercise was carried out without technical hitches, and all personnel completed the assessment within the stipulated time (40 minutes). Afterwards, Mr. Isaac Kenneth Ekene the Training Facilitator from Federal Fire Service arrived the fire station to commence the practical assessment for the firemen.  
       

      Procedures, Safety Protocols, & Emergency Response

       The practical session commenced at 1100hrs at the drill ground and covered the following areas: 

      1. Hose Drills H1 to H4 – Laying a line of hose, adding a length of hose, removing a length of hose, and replacing a burst length of hose under simulated conditions. 2. Ladder Drill – Mounting, pitching, climbing, and operational positioning of extension ladders.  

      3. Breathing Apparatus Drill – Donning, doffing, and operational use of self-contained breathing apparatus under timed conditions. 

      4. Rescue Knot Tying – Demonstration and application of different types of rescue knots used in firefighting and rescue operations. professionals in the industry.

      Practical Basic and Advanced Firefighting Training Certification

       Mr. Ekene Kenneth Isaac, the fire service trainer supervised all exercises and noted discipline, coordination, and adherence to safety procedures among the personnel. All drills were executed according to standard operating procedures. Online assessment examination and the practical assessment exercise were successfully carried out. the firemen did all they can to meet all performance and professionalism needed to be displayed during the drills. The training assessment exercise came to an end at 18:00hrs.
